Google, why?
We spend a considerable amount of blog time processing images, cropping, framing, applying filters etc. The kind of thing(s) needed to make images more interesting and to create a consistent theme.Until 6 days ago (not that we're counting) we used the editing features surfaced by Google in the Google+ Photos application. The Google+ Photos applications is NOT the same as the Google Photos application, pre-dating Google Photos by a considerable time.
It offered (past tense significant) a whole range of really quick editing/processing options which combined very well with the fact we use Google to store/manage all the media we manage. It's gone, no warning, no explanation; just one day it was there and the next it was gone.

The really annoying part is that although gone the very same effects are still regularly used by the Photo Assistant as it conjures up random recommendations which are sure to not be either good nor relevant.
The solution? PIXLR similar to Fusion 360 which we talked about last week this is another Autodesk cloud based option (which also includes a desktop version). We'll cut to the "executive" summary; it's brilliant, replacing Google+ Photos instantly with new and better creative options and either free or for the frankly bargain price of $14.99 a year, yes a year. Visit the site and try it out for yourself and we defy you not to be impressed.

Are We Sponsored by Autodesk?
No we're not! It's just we've been impressed by their cloud based offerings and recent projects have enabled us to really test the services. With that in mind a couple of images below of some pre-planning work completed in Fusion 360.Using Fusion 360 for pre-planning work |
Containment One
As the festive season draws near we're working on an unusual project; part gift, part film prop. We're around 30 hours in already and the parts list makes it hard to guess what we're up to. Below is a sneak peak of one element; this is Steampunk themed component, in this case one of 3 feet. The copper part is machined from TelCo and the brass/bronze insert is a standard compression tank connector. We're making two of these in different styles; this first is brass, copper, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen style, the second is aluminium, braided hoses, titanium bolts, Doctor Who style.

This Week's Obsession: In Floor Wine Chiller
One of our "known good" sourcing locations is a favourite place for us to browse through and a frequent source of inspiration. When we spotted a very unusual porthole combining a substantial 47kg weight with an oval aspect ratio and toughened glass we started considering the possibility of making an in floor wine chiller with the porthole as the door. We're in the middle of researching the idea, trying to answer some questions around how to package the chiller components and the viability of LED lighting in cold environments. If we decided to go ahead with this we'll be sure to let you know...

- These posts give us a chance to recap on the last week at Bokoshoko and give you a glimpse of what's happening. Many of our projects take time to come to fruition or our customers would prefer we did not share so these posts also show we're not just sitting around!
